Player Profile: Cólleen Devine 2nds Captain

Name? Cólleen ( or Có) How long have you played hockey? Eh not very long, only started last year!! Why did you start playing hockey? A lot of my friends are living abroad or married with kids so I wanted to expand my social circle. I have played football and camogie in the past (up the moores!!) but fancied a challenge so went for hockey. How did you find it when you first started? To be honest really hard, but the patience of the coaches and girls is unreal. We had a fantastic captain last year in Ruth and she really showed me the ropes along with the other new girls. Ann Nolan Dempsey, Coxy and Sharon Whelan were all a MASSIVE help too as they really showed me the ropes cause believe me

Newbridge 1st’s Vs YMCA 1st’s 29.11.2014

Newbridge met YMCA on home turf in the second round of the Division 3/4 cup. The match started off up tempo with Newbridge applying the pressure from the get go. An ambitious free hit from the away team hit led to a great interception from O’Connell which was quickly received and injected into the attaking circle by Edward seeing some link up play with Tynan and ultimately put into the back of the net by McKinlay to put the home team in front. There was some great defending from the Newbridge ladies to keep the away side at bay. YMCA were awarded a penalty corner which looked well rehearsed. The ball was put in the back of the net by Couper and both teams were all square going into half ti

Tullamore HC host U12 Blitz; 30th November 2014

Newbridge Hockey Club travelled to Tullamore last Sunday with six teams for the second under 12 West Leinster hockey blitz of the season. The Newbridge teams had a busy morning playing 18 games in total against teams from Tullamore, Naas, Abbeyleix and North Kildare. The weather was kind to us with the early morning fog clearing to give a bright dry morning. Newbridge produced some fine displays of hockey putting into practice what they've learnt at training and have improved greatly since the last blitz. The newly joined players are improving every week with help from our more experienced members. Even a few knocks and bruises didn't dampen spirits. Thanks to all the players and supporters
