Newbridge 1st’s Vs YMCA 1st’s 29.11.2014

December 3, 2014

Newbridge met YMCA on home turf in the second round of the Division 3/4 cup.

The match started off up tempo with Newbridge applying the pressure from the get go.

An ambitious free hit from the away team hit led to a great interception from O’Connell which was quickly received and  injected into the attaking circle by Edward seeing some link up play with Tynan and ultimately put into the back of the net by McKinlay to put the home team in front.

There was some great defending from the Newbridge ladies to keep the away side at bay.

YMCA were awarded a penalty corner which looked well rehearsed.  The ball was put in the back of the net by Couper and both teams were all square going into half time.

The second half started with the same intensity as the first and the Newbridge ladies broke down the YMCA midfield to open up a number of opportunites in the attacking circle seeing a shot by Edwards saved by the keeper and a great effort from McKinlay creeping wide of the post.

YMCA were then quick on the break, Newbridge were vulnerable and a shot on goal by Hewson put the away side in front for the first time in the game.

Newbridge continued to apply the pressure until the final whistle and were unlucky to come away without the win, a great effort put in by all.

Newbridge player of the match was awarded to Martina Kenny for a great effort put in throughout the game and some excellent defending.
