Newbridge U14 Minors unlucky in Semi Final

Newbridge 0 - Loreto 1 Newbridge u14 minor team travelled to dublin sunday morning to play one of Irelands most established and successful clubs in e semi final of the Leinster Minor League. This was always going to be a high standard game with the Newbridge girls coming off a strong run of games with wins over some very strong teams on their way to the semis.

Both teams started well with the dublin girls playing a typically tactical passing game to try and take the tempo out of the quick attacking Newbridge side. Newbridge looked most likely to score first with Leah Delaney controlling midfield and distributing the ball at pace to the wings. Loreto were most dangerous on the counter but defence stood strong with Megan Ferguson in goals capably dealing with all threats. It was on the back of a Newbridge move that Loreto managed to score. Intercepting a Newbridge pass in the final 1/3 of the pitch, Loreto attacked at pace and with numbers and although Clodagh Rea and Aoife Ryan did well to control the initial shot, a goal line scramble on the rebound somehow found the back of the net.

After halftime Newbridge came back into the game strongly. Lauren Hamiltons presence at right back secured important possession, while Mary Hamilton, Yasmin Friel and Aine Fisher really upped their work rate to put Loreto under pressure. Chances came for Newbridge but the final touch just never resulted in a goal. the Newbridge girls cam away disappointed not to make the final but with a strong work ethic and loads of skill among this young side we are sure to see great things from them in the future.

Best for Newbridge were Leah Delaney, Yasmin Friel, Mary Hamilton and Player of the Match Aine Fisher who defended and attacked with pace and determination throughout. the team and Club would also like to cingradulate Aine, who after an extensive trial process is down to the last few sessions to decide who will make this seasons Leinster u16 panel. Newbridge Minors continue their season with the West Leinster Cup Competition where they are still in the late stages of this competition
