On Sunday 8th March Newbridge Hockey Club hosted the last of the seasons West Leinster U12s blitz . There were approximately 140 players with boys and girls from 5th and 6th class playing on mixed teams. There was a huge turnout from Naas, Newbridge, Abbeyleix and Tullamore Hockey Club's with 20 teams participating in total. The weather was very kind to us and after a cloudy start the sun broke through for blue skies by mid-morning. The numerous spectators and coaches were treated to some very competitive and skillful hockey from all clubs. All of the players demonstrated some very disciplined play, and were eager to show off the passing, tackling and ball-carrying skills they have learnt throughout the year. This resulted in some very entertaining and close matches. All games flowed very well and the standard of hockey on display was very high. It is fantastic to see such a minority sport getting such big numbers especially toward the end of season. The enthusiasm from these young players to learn week in week out is fantastic. Newbridge Hockey Club would like to thank Naas, Abbeyleix and Tullamore for travelling to take part in the blitz, and a huge thanks must go to the parents, transition year youth leaders and senior club members for their hard work on the day to make it a success.
Junior hockey will continue until March 22nd, where Newbridge will have their end of season fun day in St. Marys Naas. Keep up to date with all the latest news from Newbridge HC on facebook.
